Our President

The Board of Directors of the Austin Area Urban League has appointed Christine Howe as the Interim President and Chief Executive Officer.  Ms. Howe, a former Time Warner Cable Executive and the principal of Financial Know Howe, served on the Austin Area Urban League’s Board of Directors from 2007 and was the Board Chair in 2010.  Ms. Howe’s predecessor, Jeffrey Richard, served as Austin Area Urban League’s President and Chief Executive Officer for six years while also serving as a Trustee on the Board of Austin Community College.  Mr. Richard was recently elected Vice Chair of ACC’s Board of Trustees.  The Austin Area Urban League thanks Mr. Richard for his years of service to AAUL and for his continued service to Central Texas as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for Austin Community College.  AAUL’s Board will undertake a national search for a new President and Chief Executive Officer. 

The Austin Area Urban League is an affiliate of the National Urban League, the nation’s largest civil rights organization. Founded in 1910, and dedicated to economic empowerment and elevation of the standards of living in historically underserved urban communities, the National Urban League spearheads the efforts of its local affiliates through the development of programs, public policy research and advocacy.  The Austin Area Urban League has been empowering people and changing lives in our community for 35 years by offering programs such as the Emergency Home Repairs Program, Workforce Development, scholarships for Higher Education, GED training, and after school technology courses.
